Goudvismomentjes - 2024

This painting is called goudvismomentjes (goldfish moments). The painting is a self portrait. It represents my memory loss and other cognitive difficulties I had after being in an accident resulting in a very bad concussion. My biggest problem was memory loss. After coming back to work, a colleague of mine started calling me a goldfish. This sparked the idea to make it into a painting including a goldfish. The head that is cut of represents the grief of losing my mind in some way. I really felt like I was losing my mind. Because, if my body does not function like it should and neither does my mind, what is left of me?
